Frax 1550 – Non-Ablative Fractional Laser
The Frax 1550 fractional laser reduces visible signs of aging with shorter recovery time. It is also suitable for darker skin types. Offered by Dr. John Rowen in Montreal (Westmount) and Knowlton.
What is a non-ablative fractional laser?
The Frax 1550 is a new-generation non-ablative fractional laser used for skin resurfacing. It creates tiny columns of energy in the skin that remove damaged pigmented cells and stimulate new collagen production. It allows deeper skin regeneration while minimizing recovery time.
How does the Frax 1550 work?
Pulse duration and energy level are adjusted independently for precise control of the width and depth of the thermal impact. The handpiece, with a magnetic roller and built-in SoftCool cooling, ensures a comfortable treatment. The energy creates micro-wells of coagulation that stimulate collagen, for smoother, firmer skin.
What the Frax 1550 fractional laser can treat
- wrinkles and fine lines, including around the mouth;
- skin texture and pores;
- acne scars, surgical scars and stretch marks (abdomen, thighs, arms, buttocks, breasts);
- pigmentation spots;
- rejuvenation of the face, neck and décolleté.
Who can receive the treatment?
Men and women aged 18 and over, skin types I to IV. The Frax 1550 is also suitable for darker skin types.
Contraindications and precautions
The treatment is contraindicated in case of:
- recent sun exposure or tan;
- infectious or cancerous skin lesions on the area to treat;
- pregnancy;
- pacemaker;
- metal implant in the area to treat.
It is strongly discouraged on tattoos or permanent makeup.
Number of sessions
On average, 4 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. The exact number varies with the lesions to treat and age. Dr. Rowen creates a personalized plan during your assessment.
Comfort and recovery
A topical anesthetic is applied before the session. A feeling of heat may cause discomfort and last 2 to 3 hours. You can resume your activities the same day. Redness, a sunburn-like sensation and mild swelling usually resolve within 24 hours.
Frax 1550 or Clear + Brilliant®?
The Frax 1550 works deeper on scars, stretch marks and wrinkles. Clear + Brilliant® is a gentler fractional laser focused on prevention and radiance.
