WHAT ARE THEY?
As we age, it is common to see small lesions or skin growths appears, small bumps, skin tags, red or brown spots, or rough patches. Although generally benign, they can sometimes cause discomfort or be bothersome from an aesthetic standpoint. Genetics can also increase the likelihood of developing them.
In short, while most skin lesions and growths are benign, prevention relies on proper skin care and regular monitoring. Treatments are available to remove or manage these skin formations, but it is always essential to consult a healthcare professional for any concerns related to skin changes.
MOST COMMONLY TREATED SKIN LESIONS
Skin tags (acrochordons): Small, soft growths often found on the neck, eyelids, or underarms.
Raised moles (benign nevi): Can be removed if aesthetically undesirable.
Cherry angiomas: Small red spots caused by dilated blood vessels.
Spider angiomas: Fine, star-shaped blood vessels, often seen on the face or neck.
Seborrheic keratoses: Brown or rough spots associated with skin aging.
WHAT TREATMENTS ARE OFFERED FOR BENIGN SKIN LESION REMOVAL?
At the clinic, we use two safe, quick, and effective complementary methods to remove superficial skin lesions:
Electrocautery – Bovie Derm 942
This technique uses a high-frequency electric current to dehydrate and precisely vaporize targeted tissues. It is particularly effective for removing:
- Skin tags
- Cherry angiomas
- Telangiectasias (small visible vessels)
- Seborrheic keratoses
- Warts
- Certain benign moles (nevi)
Advantages: Fast, precise, minimally painful treatment that reduces scarring risk while preserving healthy surrounding tissue.
Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy involves applying liquid nitrogen or a cryoprobe to freeze abnormal cells, which are then naturally eliminated by the body. It is typically used for:
- Sun-damaged skin
- Benign moles
- Precancerous lesions
- Pigment irregularities
Advantages: Non-invasive, well-tolerated method with even healing and little to no downtime.
These treatments are selected based on the type of lesion, its location, and your skin type. A prior medical evaluation is essential to determine the most appropriate approach.
