treatment.
WHAT IS PLATELET-RICH PLASMA (PRP)?
Platelet-rich plasma injections have been used for years in orthopaedic medicine, dentistry and in reconstructive surgery.
Now the benefits of PRP are being applied in dermatology to promote wound healing and facial rejuvenation, and slow down hair loss.
PRP treatments help stimulate tissue regeneration, cell growth and collagen production using growth factors and signalling molecules found in your body’s own platelets and blood plasma. PRP is 100% natural and uses no preservatives or synthetic additives.
HOW DOES PRP WORK?
Your blood is drawn using a small butterfly needle and syringe. The blood is then centrifuged to separate the plasma from the red blood cells. Once separated, the plasma can be injected or applied locally to the areas to be treated.
PRP has been shown to stimulate collagen and hyaluronic acid production. As an injectable treatment, it can help improve fine lines and restore thinning hair in both men and women. When applied topically with SYLFIRMX or DP4 microneedling, it can reduce downtime, speed up recovery, and improve skin texture.
WHAT ARE THE RECOMMENDATIONS BEFORE PRP TREATMENTS?
To prepare for PRP treatments, patients should increase fluid intake the day before by drinking a minimum of eight 8 oz glasses of water. Blood thinning agents such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, etc.) and vitamin E, fish oils, garlic, green tea and alcohol should be avoided for one week prior to procedure for best results. Coffee should be replaced with water on the morning of your procedure to promote maximum hydration.
WHICH AREAS OF THE FACE CAN BE TREATED WITH PRP?
PRP can be used anywhere on the face and neck to help correct fine lines, wrinkles, and crepey skin. PRP may also be used to improve fine lines around the lips and may also help improve dark circles under the eyes.
PRP COMBINED WITH MICRONEEDLING OR FRACTIONAL LASER?
Combining technologies such as DP4 microneedling or fractional lasers like Clear+Brilliant or FRAX 1550 with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) maximizes skin rejuvenation by enhancing natural regeneration.
- Microneedling: Creates micro-channels that trigger collagen and elastin production.
- Laser: Works deeper to target wrinkles, pigmentation, and scars.
- PRP: Rich in growth factors, applied after treatment, penetrates more effectively through the micro-channels.
This synergy accelerates cellular repair and improves skin firmness, texture, and radiance.
Benefits:
- Smoother, brighter skin
- Reduction of wrinkles, scars, and pigmentation spots
- Increased collagen and elastin production
- Visible results with minimal downtime
- Ideal for reducing signs of aging, treating acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and achieving overall rejuvenation
WHEN SHOULD YOU CONSIDER PRP IN REGENERATIVE MEDICINE?
This treatment is usually considered when conventional therapies (anti-inflammatories, physiotherapy, cortisone injections, rest, etc.) have not provided satisfactory results.
Today, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections offer a new solution when traditional treatments have failed. The PRP process generates a platelet concentration that is 5 to 6 times higher than what the body normally produces. When combined with the precision of medical ultrasound, this increased concentration raises the healing success rate to approximately 70%.
